THE DREAM TEAM… GOING THE EXTRA MILE TO MAKE YOU SMILE! 12 ELGIN LEISURE BREAKS • 2024 With a passion for hospitality and a commitment to service, Team Elgo strives to provide the best in Lancashire hospitality! We constantly question how we can improve our offering and live up to our mantra that ‘better never stops.’ We take all customer feedback on board and also welcome new ideas from our wonderful team as we strive to maintain our home from home charm. Last Winter, we undertook a full refurbishment of our restaurant to create a vibrant, high-end space for our guests to dine in. We also completed the mammoth task of replacing the old mattresses in all of our bedrooms with Hypnos Balmoral mattresses for added comfort. The year before, we re-slated the upper roof in its entirety and also installed 72 solar panels. These refurbishments are very much necessary to keep us in line with modern living and guest expectations; however, all of this would be futile without the right personnel. The affectionately named Team Elgo are the heart and soul of our hotel and work tirelessly to ensure that you enjoy every moment of your stay with us. With plenty of warm Lancashire hospitality and northern charm, our wonderful team take pride in exceeding your expectations and delivering a holiday to remember. We are extremely fortunate to have such a wonderful group of people (many long-standing employees) who commit such a large part of their lives to the hotel. Whilst our award-winning hospitality and dedication to going the extra mile will remain in 2024; there will be a few changes to strengthen our offering. We will be extending and refitting a new kitchen for our Chefs, which will mean more meal choices and a higher quality dining experience for our guests. We’ll also be undertaking some exciting bedroom refurbishments (most notably in our Club Executive rooms!) IIP GOLD STATUS We are proud to say that we have been awarded a Gold Investors in People Status once again; showing our commitment to going above and beyond to provide our staff with the necessary support and training they require to enjoy fulfilment in their careers. Not only that, but this training allows our staff to provide you with the best service possible. ELGIN LEISURE BREAKS • 2024 13 Liz and Nigel Seddon in the 70s A PASSIONATE FAMILY FOR OVER HALF A CENTURY… In 1969, John and Irene Seddon acquired the Elgin Hotel, moving from Manchester with their two children Nigel and Elizabeth. The hotel had 55 bedrooms with just eight toilets and two bathrooms. Nigel Seddon headed back to the hotel after university and soon took over the reins when his father’s health began to decline. 2001 was a milestone for the Elgin, as they doubled their capacity by purchasing neighbouring property The Bolingbroke Hotel. The family then purchased the Hotel Sheraton in 2015, and since then both hotels have gone from strength to strength becoming the much-loved hotels they are now. You will still find Nigel and Liz at the heart of the action in both hotels, and now Liz’s son Ollie as Food & Beverage Manager at the Hotel Sheraton. The Seddon family are not the only family in the hotel, with a lot of the team being families themselves. We have numerous families working at both hotels, who collectively are some of our longest standing members of the team. Their values blend with the Seddon’s to help create our home from home experience which you all know and love.
